What is your purpose? Your vocation? Your brand? Your meaningful place and value offering? Your white space in the market? Your “highest self”? The voice of separation tells you, “Your task is to differentiate. Scrutinize your face in the mirror. If you don’t decide what role you play, you get zero resources, belonging, or attention.”

It is much simpler. It’s going to sound too simple, I’m afraid.
Your capital-p Purpose is love. That’s it.

Love the world, love people, love the sacred spark in all things. There was never anything else to do. You pick the who and the how — the genre, the boundaries, the place. How free you are! The specifics are up to you every day, every moment.

Love by learning little-known truths, cleaning someone’s dishes, critiquing falsehoods, weeping, painting a fence, DJing a daytime rave.

Your telos — your end, your final destination — is love.

“Wait,” says the voice of separation, “is this codependency?”
No. This is minding your business. It is codependent to try to earn your place in the world. You are not loving to prove or acquire anything.

“Wait,” the voice of separation tries again, “Will this make me unserious, stupid, lazy, or complacent?”¹
Only if you think love is weak, sentimental, foggy-thinking, Precious-Moments-statue sweet. Only if you think love precludes truth, rage, and clarity. That’s just niceness, which has nothing to do with this.

Being rooted in the energy of love has a profoundly clearing effect. Impressing, controlling, or people-pleasing tends to make things confusing.

Stay rooted in your purpose (which, as I said, is love); let the specifics emerge from there.

1. This framing is rooted in capitalism, colonialism, racism, and misogyny. I am searching for a word that includes all those forces without flattening them. Suggestions welcome!
